ESPN‘s Ramona Shelbourne is reporting that Ronda Rousey has signed a full-time contract with the WWE. As you can see in the above video above, Rousey entered the arena as Asuka was prepped to decide who she’d be facing at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair or Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. Rousey entered the ring, attempting to shake hands, before then exiting and shaking the hand of WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, who was on commentary.
When asked for comment on this new chapter in her life, Rousey told Shelbourne: “This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, ‘There are other things I can do with my time that’ll make way more money, but I won’t enjoy nearly as much.'”
Earlier this week, Ronda Rousey told a TMZ reporter that she wasn’t going to be appearing at tonight’s Royal Rumble event.
“I’m actually leaving to Colombia right now to finish shooting Mile 22,” she told the reporter, “and won’t be back until mid February,” Rousey says. If you called bullsh*t on that when it was reported, you won.
Rousey’s flirted with entering the WWE; she was not only seen on the red carpet of the WWE’s 2017 women’s tournament, the Mae Young Classic, but she joined Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the ring during Wrestlemania 31 back in 2015. Her nickname, “Rowdy,” comes from her affinity for WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Some are even saying that Rousey’s working on the business-end for her new WWE life.
Ronda Rousey has filed for three trademarks to "Rowdy Ronda Rousey."
